The world of professional wrestling is mourning the loss of one of its biggest icons, Hulk Hogan, who passed away at the age of 71. The WWE Hall of Famer reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Clearwater, Florida, early Thursday morning. Despite immediate medical assistance, Hogan could not be revived.
The Face of an Era
Born Terry Eugene Bollea, Hulk Hogan was more than just a wrestler; he was a global phenomenon. With his trademark handlebar mustache, red-and-yellow attire, and booming charisma, Hogan helped turn professional wrestling into a mainstream spectacle during the 1980s and 1990s.
He first gained prominence in WWE (then WWF), becoming the face of “Hulkamania”, a movement that swept across America. His larger-than-life personality and unmatched connection with fans made him the undisputed superstar of his generation.
Accolades and Legacy
Throughout his career, Hogan held the WWE Championship six times, headlined numerous WrestleMania events, and was a cornerstone of wrestling’s boom period. His legendary bout against André the Giant at WrestleMania III is still considered one of the most iconic moments in sports entertainment history.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice, first in 2005 as a solo performer, and again in 2020 as part of the New World Order (nWo), a faction that revolutionized wrestling storytelling in WCW.
Beyond the Ring
Hogan also left his mark outside the ring. He appeared in films like Rocky III and Suburban Commando, and starred in reality shows such as Hogan Knows Best. His crossover appeal introduced millions to professional wrestling and made him a pop culture icon of the ‘80s and ‘90s.
Health Challenges
In recent years, Hogan had faced several health complications, including multiple back and neck surgeries. Earlier this year, he underwent another spinal procedure, and rumors about his health had been circulating. Just two months ago, his wife Sky denied reports of a serious health crisis, saying he was “strong in spirit.”
Sadly, Hogan reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at home and was pronounced dead shortly after emergency services arrived.
