A 32-year-old woman named Pramila was arrested by Mirzapur police on Saturday, 7th November in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, after a local Hindu Dalit labourer filed a police complaint against her. The complainant, Dhruv Chandra, said the woman was repeatedly trying to get him to convert to Christianity.
OpIndia has accessed the First Information Report (FIR) filed in the case. The FIR details the complaint made by Dhruvchandra, son of Durga Prasad. The case was registered at the Rajgarh police station on November 7, 2025. Police have charged Pramila under Sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
In his complaint, Dhruvchandra stated that he lives in Rampur village. He said that Pramila, wife of Deepak, who lives in the nearby Chandanpur Khoradih village, started putting pressure on him. He reported that she offered him “temptation and inducement of money” to convince him to “convert from the Hindu religion to the Christian religion.”
Dhruvchandra’s statement says that even after he refused, Pramila kept trying to mislead him with “other types of inducements and temptations” to make him accept Christianity. He told the police that she has “been involved in this work for many days.” In the FIR, Dhruvchandra also mentioned that he has a video clip of the matter. He further stated that Pramila has “already converted many people in her village.”
The Station House Officer of the Rajgarh police station, Daya Shankar, confirmed the arrest. He said that Pramila was arrested on Saturday and was then presented before a local Mirzapur court. The court sent her to judicial custody. Police sources also noted that Pramila’s husband had expressed strong objections to her activities, which had reportedly caused frequent disagreements within their family.
