Karnataka Rakshana Vedike President T.A. Narayana Gowda, speaking at the release event of the four-language trailer of the Kannada film Rajanivasa, strongly criticized the Kannada film industry (KFI) and announced annual awards with a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. The announcement was made at a crowded gathering at MMB Legacy.
Here are the key observations made by KARAVE President Narayana Gowda:
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has always prioritized Kannada and has continued its efforts despite facing arrests and insults.
KARAVE is not satisfied with the current stars of Kannada cinema. According to Gowda, they are confused and do not support all the causes aimed at the welfare of Kannada Nadu. Some of today’s superstars, who have now reached international fame, had once sought help from KARAVE. These very stars should now take responsibility to elevate the Kannada film industry.
Gowda questioned the relevance of the current Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) President, pointing out that he does not even know Kannada. “Why do such people occupy the post of President? He’s only doing business in the name of KFCC,” he remarked.
He also criticized the trend of removing well-performing Kannada films from theatres in favor of other films. “What is the logic behind removing successful Kannada films?” he asked.
KARAVE has closely observed the challenges faced by the Kannada film industry. “Until now, we refrained from getting involved. But the time has come to ‘repair’ the dirt in the industry,” Gowda declared. He pointed out that new and independent filmmakers, despite their quality content, are not given due importance, and television channels are unwilling to purchase their films.
Starting this year, KARAVE will honor a select few from the Kannada film industry annually. “I’m aware of how many are struggling. I often speak with director S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu and have discussed forming a committee to recognize and support them under KARAVE,” he added.
KARAVE has 82 lakh members across Karnataka. “We know how to ensure the success of Rajanivasa. The film’s producer Anjanappa and Lokesh Gowda have been part of our team for over 30 years. If Rajanivasa succeeds, Anjanappa plans to produce three more films with the profits. In fact, I had advised my friend Anjanappa not to make this film. But now that he has invested, it is our duty to ensure its success and his safety,” concluded Narayana Gowda.
