According to police, this was not a single hacker’s act but a coordinated effort by four to five gang members. Investigations revealed the gang used the code 121*9279295167# to target mobile devices in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, attempting to hack other victims using the same method.
The cybercriminals reportedly sent phishing links to Priyanka Upendra, and once clicked, all bank details and contacts of the couple were compromised. Priyanka alerted authorities after noticing irregularities on her mobile. The timely complaint prevented further loss, which could have exceeded ₹10 lakh, police said.
Sadashivanagar police confirmed that friends and family were contacted to verify suspicious transactions. Following the 10-day investigation, the team tracked the gang to Bihar, prompting the Central DCP, Akshay Machindra, to deploy a special team to assist in cross-state coordination.
