Sudarshan Chakra Mission: Advanced Defence Shield
In a significant move for national security, Modi revealed the launch of the Sudarshan Chakra Mission, an advanced air defence system set to be operational by 2035. Inspired by the mythical weapon of Lord Krishna, the system will provide a multi-layered shield against cross-border threats, protecting not just military assets but also public infrastructure such as railway stations, hospitals, and religious sites.
The mission will focus on indigenous research, development, and production, drawing on the skills of India’s youth. Modi compared the system’s capabilities to Israel’s Iron Dome, but stressed it would be uniquely designed for India’s needs. He cited Operation Sindhur — in which Indian forces intercepted hostile drones and missiles — as proof of the country’s readiness to counter modern warfare.
GST Reforms by Diwali 2025
The Prime Minister also announced sweeping Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, slated for rollout by Diwali 2025. The changes will lower GST rates on essential consumer goods, benefiting households and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Calling it a “double Diwali gift,” Modi said the reforms would reduce the overall tax burden and make everyday products more affordable.
Pradhan Mantri Vikshit Bharat Rojgar Yojana
To boost employment, Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Vikshit Bharat Rojgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), with an allocation of ₹1 lakh crore. Effective from today, the scheme offers direct incentives to first-time employees and employers hiring additional staff.
First-time EPFO-registered workers earning up to ₹1 lakh per month will receive up to ₹15,000 in two instalments within their first year of employment. Employers will get incentives of up to ₹3,000 per month for each new hire, extendable for four years in the manufacturing sector.
The government estimates the scheme will create 3.5 crore jobs over two years, with nearly 1.92 crore youth entering the workforce for the first time.
