A security guard in northwestern Bengaluru allegedly murdered his teenage nephew by slitting his throat after a spat over gaming addiction.
G R Nagaprasad, 50, allegedly killed his younger sister’s son, Amogh Keerthi, 14, at Vinayak Nagar on August 4, following a heated argument the previous night. The police said Amogh was demanding money from his uncle to spend on the popular online game, Free Fire.
According to the police, when Nagaprasad refused to provide money, the teenager had a heated argument with him before eventually going to sleep. At approximately 5.50 am on August 4, while Amogh slept, Nagaprasad allegedly gagged him, tied his hands and feet, and then slit his throat with a kitchen knife.
After washing the murder weapon and packing his belongings, Nagaprasad initially planned to die by suicide but abandoned the idea. He then travelled to Majestic, intending to flee the state, but lacked funds. After wandering for three days, he surrendered at Soladevanahalli police station on August 7, said a police officer.
Amogh had been living with his uncle for 11 months after his mother, Shilpa, separated from her husband and sent the boy to Nagaprasad’s home, hoping he would reform his behaviour. The court has remanded Nagaprasad in judicial custody.
