The Mahua assembly constituency is the same seat Tej Pratap won in the 2015 elections when he was still an RJD member. Speaking to reporters about his political intentions, the JJD founder said, “I will declare my candidates the day after tomorrow. Parso jordaar ailaan hoga (Day after tomorrow big announcements will be made)…I will contest from Mahua”, as quoted by news agency ANI.
When questioned on whether he was engaged in discussions with other political outfits, Tej Pratap Yadav remained enigmatic, simply stating, “Everyone is coming to meet me.” The Mahua constituency is presently represented by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Raushan, setting the stage for a potential showdown between the brothers’ parties.
Lalu’s Elder Son Tej Pratap Unfollows Tejashwi on X
A fresh public fissure has emerged within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) first family, weeks before the Bihar Assembly elections. Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has unfollowed his younger brother and Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, on the social media platform X, indicating a deepening personal and political rift.
This latest move follows his decision to unfollow his elder sisters, Misa Yadav and Hema Yadav, earlier. The former RJD leader, now the founder of the JJD, currently follows only five accounts, including just three family members: his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, his mother, Rabri Devi, and his sister, Raj Lakshmi Yadav. The elder Yadav scion is now positioning his own party to contest the upcoming polls.
The Backdrop to Tej Pratap Yadav’s RJD Expulsion
Tej Pratap Yadav’s independent political journey began after a high-profile controversy led to his expulsion from the RJD and distancing from the Yadav family on grounds of a serious breach of moral and social values. The expulsion followed a Facebook post in which he claimed to be in a long-term relationship with a woman—an incident that prompted public commentary, with netizens recalling his well-publicised marital dispute that had made headlines a few years ago. Yadav had, however, maintained at the time that his social media account was hacked.
The marital strife involved his wife, Aishwarya, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai. Within months of their marriage, Aishwarya left his residence, alleging she was driven out by her husband and in-laws. The couple’s divorce petition is currently pending before the family court. Following his subsequent expulsion from the RJD, Tej Pratap Yadav launched the JJD.
Bihar Election 2025: Multi-Cornered Electoral Battle Looms
The Bihar Assembly polls will be conducted in two phases, with the first on November 6 and the second on November 11. Vote counting is scheduled for November 14. The main electoral contest is anticipated to be between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), and the INDIA bloc, spearheaded by Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD. The INDIA bloc is seeking to unseat the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who leads the NDA.
However, the political field has been complicated by the entry of new players beyond the JJD. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party has also staked a claim to contest all 243 Assembly seats in the state, adding an unpredictable element to what is already a crucial election. (ANI)
