Two men died after falling from a four-storey shopping mall in Mysuru after one of them slipped while trying to remove an advertisement board from the top floor and the other tried to save him Monday evening.
They were identified as Sunil, 30, a technician from the Hunsur taluk who worked at the BM Habitat Mall, and Chandru, 25, a Mysuru resident. Police Commissioner Seema Latkar confirmed their deaths.
According to a police officer, Sunil was working on the fourth floor when he stepped onto a false ceiling, believing it could support his weight. While attempting to remove a board, he lost his balance but grabbed onto a pole and cried out for help, said the police.
At the same time, Chandru, who had just exited a cinema hall, noticed Sunil hanging and calling for assistance. He immediately rushed to help by grabbing Sunil’s hand. However, both of them fell to the ground, said the police.
Both men suffered severe head injuries and were hospitalised immediately. Sunil was declared dead on arrival, while the other succumbed to injuries later.
The police registered a case against the mall manager in connection with the incident for negligence.
