For the third time in Kannada cinema, the title ‘Suli’ has been used. The first instance was in 1978 by the legendary director B.S. Ranga. Later, in 2016, renowned filmmaker P.H. Vishwanath adopted the same title. Now in 2025, ‘Suli’ returns once again—this time based on the Tamil novel ‘Pavalaayi’ by Chinnappa Bharathi, a story rooted in the pre-Independence era.
Produced under the banner of Sahasrakoti Movie, Suli is now ready for release. As part of its initial publicity, the trailer and two songs were launched in a media event attended by notable personalities such as acclaimed writer and politician B.T. Lalitha Naik, veteran actress Bhavya, and well-known actor Suchendra Prasad.
Speaking at the event, B.T. Lalitha Naik emphasized the importance of companionship in life, stating, “Life is not a clean sheet of paper. A companion may come in many forms,” and added that the film reflects this idea in a compelling manner.
Actor Suchendra Prasad highlighted the need for ‘Pracharkkitha Prasaara’ (effective promotion) in the current climate. Actress Bhavya extended her best wishes to the team, especially applauding the efforts of producer B.S. Gowda.
B.S. Gowda, the producer, stands out not just for his film contribution but also for his social work. For the past 10 years, he has been running an institution dedicated to supporting men who have suffered atrocities. He expressed a deep connection with the film’s subject, believing it carries a meaningful message for society.
Director Rashmi, who has been active in the industry since 2007, is no stranger to critical acclaim—one of her earlier films has won nearly 140 awards. ‘Suli’, based on the Tamil novel translated into Kannada by Sridhar Udupa from Shimogga, has been adapted to suit the cultural nativity of the Mandya region. Rashmi noted that the film deals with themes of ‘Priti and Tyaga’ (Love and Sacrifice).
Lead actor Sanath described his role as “very realistic” and mentioned that he has dedicated himself fully to acting as a career. He requested support from the media and audience alike.
Promising actor Shanker Narayan called the film ‘Vishista and Vichitra’ (Unique and Unconventional). Other cast members including Kavya, Sanjaya, Chaitra, and Vikram Yogaland—who also served as the film’s cinematographer and have directed two films—were present at the event. Lyricist Satish Joshi, who penned two songs, and popular comedy actor Siddu Mandya were also part of the gathering.
The event was moderated by director Hariharan, who conducted the media briefing. The team took the opportunity to honor veterans B.T. Lalitha Naik and Bhavya for their contributions to the film industry.
