CM Siddaramaiah highlights infrastructure push and Karnataka’s tech leadership during the inauguration of SAP Labs India’s 41-acre campus near Bengaluru airport.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the government is expediting the completion of the Bengaluru Airport Metro and aims to introduce suburban rail services by 2029.The remarks were made during the inauguration of SAP Labs India’s expansive Innovation Park in Devanahalli, a facility that signifies Karnataka’s growing stature as a global technology hub.
Siddaramaiah noted that the metro line project, originally initiated during his earlier term in 2017, is now being expedited to meet the mobility needs of Bengaluru’s rapidly growing northern corridor. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering suburban rail access within the next four years, aiming to ease commuting challenges and boost regional development.

Highlighting Karnataka’s pivotal role in India’s tech landscape, the CM said the state contributes over 8% to the national GDP and dominates the IT sector with 35% of total exports. He praised Bengaluru’s evolution into a national leader in AI, quantum computing, and advanced technologies, while also acknowledging the city’s dominance in unicorn startups and innovation clusters.
He also pointed to Devanahalli’s strategic location near Kempegowda International Airport as a catalyst for new growth, stating that SAP’s investment there signals its potential as the next major innovation zone. Two key partnerships were announced during the event, an MoU with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to develop talent in logistics and infrastructure, and a collaboration with the Technical University of Munich to advance tech research.
