The muhurtha of Dad, starring Dr. Shivrajkumar, was held on Monday at the Nandi Temple on Chamundi Hill in Mysore. Geetha Shivrajkumar gave the first clap for the opening shot and wished the team success.
The launch at this location holds significance, as around 32 years ago Shivrajkumar’s film Jaga Mechhida Huduga had also begun in front of the giant Nandi statue at Chamundi Hill. Now, his new film Dad has started at the same temple.
The movie is produced by Harish Peddi under the banner of Myra Creations. Harish Peddi has earlier produced Telugu films such as Bhagavanth Kesari, Ugram, and Tuck Jagadish. Director Anil Kanneganti, who has previously directed Telugu films including Asadhyudu, Mr. Nookayya, and Hidimbha, has written and is directing the film. For both the producer and director, this is their first Kannada film. B.S. Sudheendra, currently working on Shivanna 131, is serving as executive producer.

Dad is described as a father–sentiment drama with thrilling elements. Shivrajkumar plays the role of a doctor. He had earlier portrayed a doctor in Gadibidi Krishna, and is returning to a similar role after about 27 years. Shooting will take place for about 50 days in Bengaluru and Mysore.
The cast includes Shivrajkumar, Sharmila Mandre, Baby Nakshatra, Babu, and Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film is being made in Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam. Music is composed by Arjun Janya, while cinematography is by B. Rajashekar, who has earlier worked on Telugu films such as Orange and Arya 2.
