A dip in temperature below normal was recorded in Bengaluru on Thursday, with the minimum temperature in the city being recorded at 16.1°C and the maximum at 25.2°C, which is 1.1°C and 2.2°C below normal.
The dip came amid the development of a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast, which is expected to hit the east coast as a cyclonic storm and is predicted to bring heavy rainfall to south interior Karnataka on Saturday.
The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) weather forecast for Bengaluru has predicted an increase in maximum temperature on Saturday but a decrease in minimum temperature to as low as 13°C (as per forecasts on the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre’s site), which could result in one of the coldest days for November in Bengaluru in recent decades.
The lowest temperature recorded in the last 24 hours in Bengaluru city was 14.7°C at Yelahanka.
The mean maximum temperature for November in the last 15 years has been 27.4°C, while the minimum has been 18.3°C. The lowest minimum temperature in the city for November in the last 15 years has been recorded at 13.3°C on November 19, 2012, while the lowest-ever temperature for the month has been recorded at 9.6°C on November 15, 1967. The lowest minimum last November was 19.4°C on November 27.
The weather forecast put out by the IMD for Bengaluru for the next 48 hours on Thursday stated, “Generally cloudy sky. Mist is very likely during early morning hours in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperature are very likely to be around 27°C and 17°C respectively.”
“Heavy rain/thundershowers likely to occur at one or two places over Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Bengaluru (Rural), Bengaluru (Urban), Chamarajanagara and Ramanagara districts,” the IMD weather forecast for Saturday said.

The lowest minimum temperature ever recorded in Bengaluru is 7.8°C on January 13, 1884, as per the IMD’s historical records.
