Even though Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) managed to secure 29 seats after the NDA announced its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections earlier this week, the party was allocated only two seats, one each in Khagaria and Vaishali, out of the five Lok Sabha constituencies the LJP (RV) won in the 2024 general elections.
Although his party managed to pull through this allocation, Chirag, who had reportedly demanded 10 Assembly seats (two each from the five parliamentary constituencies), was not able to get any seat from Hajipur which he represents in the Lok Sabha.
Chirag’s demand for at least 10 unreserved seats was also not met. Bihar has 38 reserved SC seats in the House of 243.
However, Chirag successfully bargained hard with ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to get Govindganj seat for his party’s state president Raju Tiwari and Brahmpur for senior leader Hulas Pandey. He has also fielded his nephew Seemant Mrinal from Garkha (SC) seat in Saran.
The party’s list of 29 seats has seven Scheduled Caste candidates (all from reserved seats), six upper caste candidates, 15 OBCs and EBCs and one Muslim.
From the two parliamentary constituencies, LJP (RV) has fielded Babulal Shourya from Parbatta in Khagaria, and Sanjay Kumar Singh from Mahua under Vaishali Lok Sabha constituency.
Chirag has also secured two seats from Gaya parliamentary constituency, Bodhgaya (SC) and Sherghati, much to the reported displeasure of Gaya MP and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi.
