One who doesn’t need a specific time to drink… those who are always inclined towards alcohol are called Piyots. This film “Piyot” comes with a message showing what problems arise because of drinking, and how difficult it is when one decides to quit alcohol. The movie is releasing this December 12. The entire film team shared details about their movie in front of the media. Along with that, they also requested: “After watching Devil, give us a little boost by watching our film too.”
Lahari Company has taken the audio rights. Speaking about the film, Lahari Velu said: “They take alcohol addicts to a rehab centre and try to give them a new life. Only when one goes there do they understand the struggle. You have made a good film. I had heard the songs but didn’t know the message was this strong. Such a movie was needed. All the best,” he said.
Distributor Prashanth said: “After watching the movie, I liked it a lot and agreed to distribute it. When director Karthik Raj met me, he said the film would be released during Darshan’s Devil release time. Everyone wondered what courage they have to release it then. We cannot compare ourselves to Darshan film. Our content is different. Despite Devil, we have received a few theatres. We are getting 20–25 single screens and around 15 multiplexes,” he said.
Director Karthik Raj said: “I know the term Piyot. It’s a label. People label alcoholics as Piyots. I have seen alcohol addiction from a young age. I have even tried to understand them—why they drink, what pain they are carrying. Wanting to show all of that is why we took up this subject.”
Actor Likhith said: “I put in a lot of effort into this film so that it doesn’t get any black mark. Shooting in the rehab was such that even remembering it now can make one go numb. Till today I have never felt like drinking. I haven’t even touched alcohol,” he said.
Actress Ashwini Chaware—who is already shining in Marathi, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema and has also acted in several Kannada films—makes her debut as “Ashwi” in Piyot. One particular word used in the film, Soo, has been removed as per censor board instructions.
Grace Fikma Company has produced the film, and it is releasing on December 12.
