Investigation into the Red Fort terror attack has revealed that suicide bomber Dr Umar un Nabi was in touch with a Turkish handler, ‘Ukasa’, operating from Ankara, Turkey. As per reports, the Turkish handler was in contact with Nabi and his associates through a highly encrypted app called Session App. “The communication between the accused and their handler was maintained exclusively through the Session app to avoid surveillance. It’s clear the group was operating under foreign direction,” a senior official said as quoted by India Today.
The Turkish handler was coordinating the terror module’s activities from Ankara
Dr Nabi and Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, one of the accused in the Faridabad terror module, reportedly visited Turkey in 2022. According to investigating agencies, Ukasa, which means spider in Arabic, used to coordinate the terror group’s movements, finances and radicalisation activities from Ankara. The members of the terror module came in contact with Ukasa during their visit to Turkey and were radicalised and recruited into the network there. This finding is being viewed as a breakthrough in the investigation into the activities of the terror module, as this indicates that the module’s operations were not limited to India.
The investigating agencies are examining the chat histories, call logs, and recovered digital devices to ascertain the full extent of the terrorist network’s activities and the possible connection of the network with Pakistan-based terrorist groups.
