Just days after the passing of multi-talented comedy actor Yashwanth Sardeshpande, the Kannada film and theatre industry has been struck by another tragic loss — ace comedian Raju Talikote has passed away following a heart attack on set. Though he had recovered from a previous heart ailment, this time it proved fatal. According to close sources, he had pleaded to be taken to the hospital, asking to be saved from death.
Raju Talikote, aged 62, was known for living life to the fullest. He was bold and open, often speaking candidly about his personal life. In a memorable conversation at the famous Green House passage, he shared with a smile how he once became both a father and grandfather in a short span — as his daughter from his first wife and his second wife both delivered babies around the same time. “One should take life as it comes,” he had said, adding that his wives had no issues and lived together harmoniously.
Born in 1963 as Rajasab Muktamsab Talikote, he made a lasting impact through theatre and comedy. A school dropout, he followed in the footsteps of his parents and continued the legacy of Sree Guru Kaskadeswara Natiya Sangha. His debut stage play, Hendathi Andre Hendathi, left a strong impression, and he went on to perform in over 15,000 stage plays. One of his standout plays, Kaliyugada Kuduka, was especially well received.
He also had a successful career in cinema, acting in numerous Kannada films including Manasaare, Pancharangi, Rajadhani, Lifu Ishtene, Alemari, Maina, Topiwala, Punjabi House, and many others. He was also a popular participant in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7.
Raju Talikote rose to the esteemed position of director at the Rangayana theatre group in Dharwad, cementing his contribution to Kannada culture and performing arts.
The final rites were held at his native village, Chikka Sindagi. In a fitting tribute, stage songs were recited where his body was kept for public viewing.
