The mother of a teenage girl who died in a stampede at the Bengaluru cricket stadium on June 4, during a celebration of the Indian Premier League (IPL) victory of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has filed a police complaint stating that jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh which her daughter was wearing at the time of incident was missing when her body was handed over to the family.
Ashwini Shivakumar, 35, the mother of Divyanshi B S, 13, the youngest of 11 victims in the stadium stampede, on Thursday lodged a police complaint stating that her daughter’s body still had a pair of gold earrings and a chain when it was taken to the Bowring Hospital on the evening of June 4.
It has been stated that at the time of receiving the body of the teenager, the family had not noticed the absence of the gold ornaments, and it was only later realised. The complaint has suggested that the ornaments were stolen at the mortuary.
“There is a lot of sentimental value attached to the ornaments as a sign of what was worn by my daughter in her last moments,” the Yelahanka resident has stated while seeking an investigation.
“She wanted to see him (Virat Kohli) up close. Her wish cost her her life,” Divyanshi’s mother had stated after her death.
Class 9 student Divyanshi was a dancer and wanted to become a veterinarian doctor, her mother said.
“She was a very mature person. In fact, she used to inspire me on how to handle situations in life,” Shivakumar added.
