Former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, who received a life sentence for rape last month, has recently been assigned clerical duties at the library of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
Prison Department sources confirmed that Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, started working in the prison library five days ago, handling book records and performing clerical tasks. Under prison regulations, he was classified as an unskilled labourer and offered options including bakery, carpentry, gardening, animal husbandry, or crafts before being assigned to library duties.
The 34-year-old former Hassan MP currently earns approximately Rs 520 per day for his work, with wages scheduled to increase over time according to prison protocols. Following his conviction, he was transferred from a high-security cell to the convicts’ section and issued prison uniform number 15528.
Prajwal Revanna faces multiple charges stemming from four cases – three rape cases and one sexual harassment case. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by B K Singh conducted the investigation and filed charge sheets in all cases.
The SIT filed a 1,632-page chargesheet in September 2024, supported by testimony from 113 witnesses.
The chargesheet detailed allegations that Prajwal Revanna raped a victim twice and recorded the assaults on his mobile phone. These videos became crucial evidence when they were leaked in 2024, during the Lok Sabha elections.
Forensic Science Laboratory analysis confirmed Prajwal Revanna’s presence in the videos, providing definitive evidence that proved instrumental in securing his conviction.
