Soon after he arrived from Saudi Arabia on Sunday, the Mangaluru City police arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative messages against Hindus on social media from another country.
Sudhir Kumar Reddy, Police Commissioner, Mangaluru City, announced the arrest on Monday, identifying the accused as Abdul Khader Nehad, a native of the city who worked in the Gulf country.
The Bajpe police had earlier registered a suo motu case over alleged derogatory and provocative posts against Hinduism made on an Instagram account on October 11. Technical investigation in the case indicated that the person who posted the provocative content was Nehad who resided in Saudi Arabia. A Look Out Circular (LOC) was then issued against him, the commissioner stated.
On Sunday, Nehad landed at the Kozhikode airport in Kerala, following which the police arrested him. Further investigation into the case is underway.
2 held for brandishing swords in viral video
In another case, the Kavoor police arrested two people for allegedly posting a video on social media in which they are seen brandishing swords and dancing. The arrested have been identified as Ameer Suhail, 28, and Suresh, 29, both residents of Mangaluru city.
According to the police, on Saturday, Suresh uploaded a video on Facebook in which he was seen with Suhail brandishing swords as they grooved to a song. The social media monitoring unit of the Mangaluru City police noticed the video when it went viral, and the two were arrested soon after. The police have seized the swords and the mobile phones used to upload the video on social media.
The Mangaluru City police recently started cracking down on anti-social elements, especially after the communally sensitive murders of Abdul Rahiman and Suhas Shetty. Commissioner Reddy had issued warnings in this regard earlier.

Recently, Mumbai native Felix Edward Mathias, 56, was arrested for posting hateful content on social media, after which he was found to be working in Saudi Arabia. Mathias had allegedly posted derogatory content against the Bhagavad Gita and women in February 2024 and the police had registered a case.
An LOC was issued against Mathias and upon his arrival at Mumbai International Airport on December 5, he was taken into custody by the Mangaluru City police. Further probe is underway.
