A case of “Love Jihad” was reported from Odisha’s Kendrapara district. The controversy began after a Muslim woman accused her own husband of cheating multiple women by hiding his identity and religion. Based on her complaint, the police have started an investigation to verify the claims.
The complaint has been filed by Farida Khatoon, a resident of the Nasdipur area under the Kendrapara Sadar police station limits. She has accused her husband, Saizuddin Khan of Jamdhar village, of luring Hindu women into relationships by claiming he was unmarried and then marrying them. According to her statement, at least two Hindu women were targeted in this way.

Farida told the police that she married Saizuddin in 2020, and the couple has a child. She further said that her husband abandoned her around two years after the birth of their child. After leaving her, Saizuddin is accused of entering into relationships with other women under false pretences.
Claims of multiple marriages and false identity
In her complaint, Farida said that Saizuddin first married a Hindu woman by hiding his marital status and religion. About a year later, she claimed, he married another Muslim woman. She added that around a month ago, he again lured a Hindu woman into a relationship and married her. In all these cases, Farida said, her husband projected himself as unmarried to gain the trust of the women.
She also made a serious allegation that certain Muslim organisations provide financial incentives for such marriages. According to her claim, an amount of ₹10 lakh is given for each marriage with a Hindu woman. Farida claimed that her husband received ₹20 lakh after marrying two Hindu women. However, police officials have clearly stated that these financial claims are yet to be verified.

The case took another turn when the father of a woman from the Nagpur area approached the Kendrapara Superintendent of Police. He said that Saizuddin took his daughter to Hyderabad and married her after misleading her. Police have noted this complaint and said it will be examined as part of the ongoing probe.
Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria said the police are taking the matter seriously. “All allegations are being investigated carefully and based on facts. Action will be taken strictly as per law once the investigation is complete,” he said.
