Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar on Saturday sought to dismiss the Opposition’s claims of rift in the Congress. After a breakfast meeting with Shivakumar at Siddaramaiah’s house, the Karnataka CM said: “There are no differences between DK Shivakumar and me… We go together… They (BJP and JDS) are saying that no no-confidence motion will be moved. We will face it.” He was addressing mediapersons, with Shivakumar sitting beside him, smiling.

Addressing the matter of a few Congress MLAs visiting the party high command in Delhi, Siddaramaiah said he had spoken to them. He also said that any decision regarding any ministerial berth will be taken by the Congress high command. “As far as I know, some MLAs want to become ministers, so they might have gone to meet the high command. This does not mean that they are against the leadership. Some of them spoke to me and told me why they went to Delhi. Whatever the high command says, we will go by that,” he said. There is no confusion, he said.
“The BJP and JDS have a habit of making false allegations. The BJP and JDS have made statements that they will bring a no-confidence motion. They are only 60, and the JDS is 18. They cannot match our numbers. We are 140. This is a futile exercise. We will confront their false allegations,” CM Siddaramaiah said.
He said that the Congress is focused on the 2028 Assembly elections right now. “Our agenda is the 2028 elections. Local body elections are important. We discussed them. We also discussed bringing back Congress in the 2028 elections. We discussed that we will go together. There are no differences between us and there will be no differences in the future.”
Congress will move forward under Kharge & RaGa’s leadership in 2028: Shivakumar
Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said that after the breakfast meeting at the CM house, Siddaramaiah will be visiting his home for lunch or dinner. “Whatever they [party high command] say, that will our decision. We have been loyal soldiers of the party. We know that the party is going through difficult times in the country. But we are confident that Karnataka will play a major role; we shall repeat the government in 2028, and move forward in 2029 as well under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.”
“Today, we discussed our strategy for the 2028 assembly elections and how to deal with the opposition. They may try to raise many issues. We are prepared to respond…”

‘Big issues need to be raised during Parliament Winter Session’
DK Shivakumar said: “There are some big issues that the Parliament members need to raise in this (Winter) session. Whatever they [central government] had promised on sugarcane, maize issues and many other programmes; but they are not helping the state.”
He pointed out that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had recently met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to submit a representation. “We are going to tell our Parliament members, don’t waste your time. You are not helping the state government. You have to go together. If you are interested in the welfare of the state, then we should all go together.”
“As far as the no-confidence motion is concerned, let them do so…We are capable of running the assembly and the government. We will do it,” he added.

With the issue of change of CM, raised by Shivakumar on November 20 when the Congress government in the state completed 2.5 years in power, festering for a week and the state legislature session scheduled for December 8, the Congress central leadership has asked the two leaders to resolve the issue without central intervention.

Shivakumar had said he was in no hurry to become the CM of Karnataka. “The party workers may be eager, but I am in no hurry. The party will take all the decisions.”
Opposition insists ‘Conngress is divided’
The Opposition is still insisting that the rift in the Congress is still there. After the Siddaramaiah-Shivakumar meeting, JDU MLA Nikhil Kumaraswamy said: “Today, the Congress are serving idlis. They are just united for breakfast, but unfortunately, as a whole, the Congress party is divided. We are not expecting anything out of this; the people of Karnataka are suffering.”
