A couple died after suffering critical injuries in a mysterious blast at their house in the Hassan district of Karnataka Monday night. While the police investigate the cause of the blast, it is suspected that raw materials for crackers were present in the house at Alur taluk.
Kavya, 28, and her husband Sudarshan, 32, were taken to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for treatment and passed away Tuesday evening.
Hassan Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha M S addressed the media Tuesday, confirming that a case was registered at the Alur police station Monday based on a complaint filed by Mohan Kumar, Sudarshan’s father.
According to Kumar’s statement, the explosion occurred around 8.30 pm Monday in a passage near the washroom area, which adjoins the compound at the rear of the house. At the time of the blast, Kumar was at home with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
While Sudarshan and Kavya suffered the worst effects of the blast, Kumar and his grandchildren, who were sitting in the lobby area, escaped with little to no injuries. Sudarshan was employed at a subsidiary of multinational tech company and also worked part-time as a carpenter, said the police.
A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team and senior crime officers are meticulously examining the scene and collecting samples of chemical components, metal items, and carpentry materials found at the location. Also, a specialist team from Bengaluru has been deployed to conduct a thorough analysis to determine the precise cause of the explosion.
