After the verification of the video, a case was filed at the Civil Line police station, and Irfan was arrested.
Dispute over mosque loudspeaker
Mohammad Irfan is a muezzin at the Madina Mosque situated in Madina Chowk, Civil Lines in Muzaffarnagar District of Uttar Pradesh. The conflict is said to have ensued on the 10th of November, when Kachchi Sadak police post in-charge, Vinod Chaudhary, visited the mosque.
The officer raised objections to the volume of the mosque’s loudspeaker, saying it was too loud. Irfan, however, claimed that the volume was within permissible limits and objected to the officer’s remarks. He said that the situation escalated after this disagreement.
Irfan later alleged that the police officer misbehaved with him and used abusive language. Following the incident, leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind reached the mosque. The organisation’s district president, Maulana Mukarram Qasmi, met Irfan and heard his version of events. During this conversation, Irfan narrated what he claimed had happened and made the threatening remark that was caught on camera.
Police say the threat cannot be ignored
City CO Siddharth K. Mishra said that while allegations against the police officer will also be investigated, threatening to kill a police official is a serious criminal offence. He stated that the police received the threatening video through social media and took the necessary action.
“A person is seen openly threatening a policeman. That is a grave matter. A case has been registered, and legal action has been taken,” the officer said, adding that the allegations against the police personnel involved would also be examined separately.
The case remains under investigation, but police have made it clear that issuing violent threats against law enforcement will not be tolerated.
