Veteran writer, director, and actor S. Murali Mohan passed away on 13th August 2025 at a private hospital in Bengaluru, after a prolonged battle with kidney-related ailments. He was in his mid-50s and had been undergoing treatment for a considerable time, reportedly spending over 30 lakhs on medical care. Despite his brave fight, the industry lost a dynamic and passionate creative force.
Murali Mohan carved a niche for himself in the Kannada film industry with his firebrand writing and distinct storytelling style. He worked on several notable films including Tarle Nan Maga, Ssh…Om, A, Mallikarjuna, and Santha. His directorial venture ‘Nagarahavu 2’, featuring superstar Upendra and backed by Rockline Productions, brought him considerable recognition and critical acclaim.
Though he hoped for more frequent opportunities post-2002, the expected surge in his directorial career didn’t materialize. Nevertheless, his passion for cinema saw him pivot into acting, taking on character roles in films such as Topiwala, Prem Adda, Katarnak, Navarangi, Rangin Raate, Madhura Milana Mouna, Akka, Lakshmi Mahalakshmi, and others.
