In Mumbai, a 31-year-old man named Mohsin Ali Abdul Sattar Qadari duped two women of ₹11 lakh by claiming to be a ‘descendent of Islamic prophet Muhammad. Qadari promised to double the jewellery and cash in the house of the Muslim victims.
Mohsin Ali Qadari has been booked for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Back in 2022, complainant Ansar Ahmed Abdul Ghani, a resident of Mahim and his brother Israr Farooqui, met Qadari at a dargah in South Mumbai. Accused Mohsin Ali Qadari told Ansar and his brother that he possessed a hair of Islamic prophet Muhammad. The complainant invited Qadari to their Mahim residence, where the accused arrived with a glass box containing what he claimed to be Muhammad’s hair.
Qadari performed some rituals and placed the glass box inside a cupboard there and asked the complainant not to open it until he tells them to do so.
Days later, Qadari arrived at the complainant’s house when the latter and his brother were not at home. Qadari met the wives of the two brothers. He asked the women to keep all the jewellery cash in the house near the glass box, claiming that the jewellery would double in a few days and money will also increase.
The women complied with his instructions and then moved out of the house as Qadari claimed that he wanted to perform some rituals alone. However, as soon as the women stepped out, Qadari took out the jewellery worth around ₹11 lakh from the cupboard and escaped.
The fraud came to light a few days later when the two women revealed the matter to their husbands. When confronted by the complainant Ansar Ahmed Abdul Ghani, accused Mohsin Ali Qadari claimed that he stole the jewellery as he was having financial problems.
