A 41-year-old man was allegedly killed by his colleague following a dispute over switching off lights at their workplace in Bengaluru in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred at Saraswathinagar around 1.30 am, according to the police.
The deceased was identified as Bheemesh Babu from Chitradurga, who managed a digital vault and photo-editing firm near MC Layout. The accused, Somala Vamshi, 24, a technical executive from Andhra Pradesh residing in Nayandahalli, surrendered at Govindarajanagar police station shortly after the murder, said the police.
According to the police, Babu was sensitive to bright lights and regularly requested colleagues to switch them off when unnecessary.
Around 1 am, while Vamshi was editing videos, Babu asked him to turn off the lights, triggering a heated argument, said the police.
As the heated argument continued, Vamshi and Babu engaged in a fight, where Vamshi allegedly threw chill powder at Babu and picked up an iron dumbbell from the room, hitting him on the head. A police officer said Vamshi hit Babu’s head multiple times, as well as his face and chest, in anger.
Vamshi panicked after Babu collapsed, and he informed one of his colleagues. They later shifted Babu to a hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
S Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the police filed a murder case and the accused has been sent to judicial custody.
