Services on Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line were hit on Friday morning after a 38-year-old man allegedly died by suicide on the tracks at Kengeri Metro Station.
According to the police, the incident took place at 8.20 am, and the body of the victim, identified as Shantagouda Police Patil from Devara Hipparagi in Vijayapura, was later transported to a nearby private hospital for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) immediately suspended operations between Mysuru Road and Challaghatta stations.
Train services continued only up to Mysuru Road, while a response team comprising BMRCL staff, police personnel, and paramedics worked to recover the body from the tracks.
Normal operations between Jnana Bharathi and Challaghatta resumed at 9.40 am, approximately 80 minutes after the incident.
Authorities identified the deceased through documents found in Patil’s pocket.
The hour-long suspension left hundreds of passengers stranded across multiple Purple Line stations during the busy morning rush hour.
