Filmmaker Prasanth Varma, who recently delivered HanuMan and is currently working on Jai Hanuman as well as introducing Nandamuri Balakrishna’s son Mokshagna to cinema, has announced the third installment in his superhero universe. Titled Mahakali, the project is positioned as India’s first female superhero film.
Kannada actor Bhoomi Shetty from Kundapura plays the lead role. The first look poster has been unveiled, featuring her in a striking divine avatar with a red and gold facial design and traditional ornaments.
While Prasanth Varma has written the story, the film will be directed by Pooja Aparna Kolluru, who previously made Martin Luther King. Mahakali explores the cultural and historical backdrop of Goddess Kali, drawing from West Bengal’s traditions.
The film is produced by Rizwan Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, and presented by RK Duggal Studios. Smaran Sai is composing the music. Along with various Indian languages, the film will also release in multiple international languages, continuing the expansion strategy seen with HanuMan.
