The 218th Independence Day Flower Show at Lalbagh will showcase a stunning floral tribute to Kittur Rani Chennamma, featuring over 36.5 lakh flowers and iconic historical structures.
Bengaluru’s iconic Lalbagh Botanical Garden is set to host its 218th Flower Show from August 7 to 18, marking the Independence Day celebrations with a vibrant floral tribute to one of India’s earliest freedom fighters, Kittur Rani Chennamma.
The grand event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday at 10 AM, with the main floral installations being designed around the Kittur Fort and Chennamma’s Durbar (royal court). These structures are being meticulously recreated using a dazzling variety of flowers, with preparations nearing completion by tonight.

A towering 18-foot-high and 32-foot-wide replica of Kittur Fort is the show’s main attraction. In front of it stand impressive floral statues of Rani Chennamma on horseback and Sangolli Rayanna, her loyal general and a fellow warrior against British rule.
More than 36.5 lakh flowers are being used to bring the floral vision to life, including over 105 exotic and seasonal varieties like hydrangeas, calla lilies, orchids, tuberose, and begonias. Flowers have been specially brought in from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Pune.
