Actor and director Ajay Rao has taken on a new role as Radheya. His upcoming film bears the same name, Radheya. Vedaguru, who has gained experience working with various directors over the years, makes his directorial debut with this film. The movie is jointly produced by Keerthi Chahna Cinema Factory and Vedaguru himself. Starring Krishna Ajay Rao and Sonal Monteiro in the lead roles, the film’s teaser was released recently at an event.
Speaking on the occasion, director Vedaguru explained that Radheya is another name for Karna from the Mahabharata, as Karna’s foster mother was named Radha. However, he clarified that the story has no direct connection to Karna’s life, except for the theme of sacrifice. “When I first narrated the story to Ajay Rao, I was only a director. Later, I decided to produce it as well. Though it belongs to the love genre, I’ve attempted to present it differently. Distributor Kantharaju has supported us strongly in this phase. The story shows how Radheya preserves his love and the struggles he overcomes for it. My faith in the script made me take up the role of producer. The film was shot around Bengaluru,” he said.
Lead actor Ajay Rao stated that this project holds a special place in his film career. “From the start, the Ajay Rao brand has had its own identity, but this film is different. I feel Vedaguru himself is the real hero of this project—he has struggled immensely to bring it to this stage. Being a producer myself, I understand how challenging it is. The story revolves around a character who is in jail as a criminal. My role has a psychological edge—it’s something new for me, a character that will make audiences wonder if Ajay could really do such a role,” he said.
Actress Sonal Monteiro described Radheya as a unique experience. “I play Amrutha, a crime reporter for a local TV channel who dreams of joining a bigger network through her case studies. It was a good experience working with this team,” she shared.
Distributor Kantharaju, who is releasing the film under the Forest banner, recounted how he got involved. “Vedaguru invited me to watch the film in August last year, but I was then busy with Forest Release Ten. That project didn’t perform as expected, so I turned my attention to distribution. When I watched Radheya, I really liked it—it gave me a different kind of feeling. Ajay Rao’s performance stood out, so I decided to support the film,” he said.
Radheya is scheduled for release on November 21. The film features music by Viyan (Sandy), cinematography by Rummy, and editing by Suresh Armugam. The team plans to release the songs and trailer in phases leading up to the film’s release.
