A man broke into a women’s paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru, where he allegedly sexually harassed and robbed a 21-year-old resident before escaping.
According to the Bengaluru police, the incident occurred in the PG between 3 and 4 am on August 29. The victim initially mistook the intruder for her roommate, who she thought was returning from work.
The police said the man allegedly touched the woman inappropriately. When the woman protested upon seeing the knife-wielding attacker, he threatened her to remain silent. He also physically assaulted her multiple times, according to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the police.
The perpetrator had locked another room from outside before entering the victim’s. After stealing Rs 2,500 from the woman’s room, the masked intruder fled.
Security camera footage captured the attack, showing the assailant, with his face covered, being chased by the victim. The footage showed he spent approximately two minutes inside before escaping via the same staircase he used to enter the Bengaluru PG.
The police have registered a case under sections 75 (sexual harassment), 76 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) and 329 (3) (criminal traspass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In August, an intruder entered a PG in Yelahanka and robbed a mobile phone worth Rs 1 lakh. The victim, Sushma HC, an assistant engineer at Bescom’s Yelahanka C-7 office, had joined the accommodation just 15 days ago.
