New Delhi: Days before the assembly polls, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar released a video message, crediting himself and the NDA with transforming Bihar and the image of Biharis, listing development work done since 2005.
In the 3-minute 53-second video, Kumar stated that before he came to power, “being called a Bihari was considered an insult.” He added that their government worked for every section of society and changed that perception.
“Before 2005, Bihar’s situation was dire. The entire state was shrouded in darkness. Roads were dilapidated, and education and health systems had completely collapsed. You gave the NDA an opportunity, and we wrote a new saga of development, taking into account every segment of society,” Kumar said in the video message released Saturday morning.
While the Mahagathbandhan Wednesday officially declared RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate, the ruling NDA, though projecting Nitish Kumar as the face of the coalition, is yet to name a chief ministerial candidate. A few weeks ago, after a video of Nitish Kumar’s odd gestures at an event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral, Tejashwi had asked whether the 74-year-old leader was fit to continue as CM.
Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.

Taking a jibe at the previous RJD government, Kumar said that a state once known for crime and lawlessness has now become synonymous with strong infrastructure, education, healthcare, and improved governance.
Hitting out at RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav, Kumar added that his government has worked for all sections of society, not just for their own families. “From the very beginning, we have worked for the development of all sections of society, be it Hindus, Muslims, upper castes, backward, extremely backward, Dalits, or Maha Dalits. We have worked for everyone, not for our families,” he said.
‘One more chance’
Seeking another term for the NDA government and urging every citizen to vote, Kumar said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government would develop Bihar to make it one of the top states in the country.
“In 2005, Bihar’s GSDP was Rs 79,000 crore, which has now increased to Rs 11 lakh crore. Bihar has set an example for the entire country in women’s empowerment. Schemes like the Chief Minister’s Entrepreneur Scheme and the Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme have made youth and women economically self-reliant. Today, paved roads and electricity have reached every village,” he added.
“The previous government did no work for women. We have worked for them and made them independent. Now, they work for their families and children,” Kumar said.
