A 38-year-old woman allegedly killed her 12-year-old daughter before ending her own life in Karnataka’s Shivamogga. Though the incident may have taken place on Thursday, it came to light on Friday morning when the woman’s husband, a lab technician at a hospital, returned from work.
According to a police officer, the 12-year-old girl had called her father around 10.30 pm on Thursday, expressing concern that her mother was behaving strangely after taking medicines.
On Friday morning, when the man returned from work, he discovered that both his wife and daughter were dead.
The police suspect that the woman was suffering from mental health issues, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the deaths.
Forensic teams have conducted an inspection, and both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
G K Mithun Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Shivamogga, said they have registered two separate cases. “The woman has used sharp materials like a knife and scissors to kill her daughter. We are probing to ascertain the reason behind the killing,” he added.
