Karnataka’s Raj Bhavan renamed *Lok Bhavan* with Governor’s approval; all records updated, aligning with similar changes in other states
The Governor’s Secretariat has announced that Karnataka’s Raj Bhavan will now be officially known as Lok Bhavan, Karnataka. The change, effective immediately, follows approval from Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and is based on a directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on November 25, 2025.
According to the notification, all official records, correspondence, and references must adopt the new nomenclature without delay. Departments and authorities across the state have been instructed to update documents, letterheads, websites, and other communication materials to reflect the revised name.

This renaming aligns Karnataka with several other states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand, which have already issued similar notifications. The move is part of a broader effort to bring uniformity in the naming of gubernatorial residences across the country, shifting from the traditional “Raj Bhavan” to “Lok Bhavan.”
In a related development at the national level, the new housing complex of the Prime Minister’s Office, nearing completion under the Central Vista Redevelopment project, will be called Seva Teerth. The complex was earlier referred to as the Executive Enclave.
The renaming of Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan marks a symbolic change, emphasizing inclusivity and reflecting evolving administrative practices across India.
