Following the budget announcement about creating an over-the-top (OTT) platform to promote Kannada movies, the Karnataka Government has issued an order forming a panel to prepare an outline for it. The order, issued on September 20, was released by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s office on Thursday.
The 10-member panel will be headed by the commissioner of the Department of Information and Public Relations. Chairman of Sri Kanteerava Studios Limited Mehboob Pasha, actor-music director and chairman of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy Sadhu Kokila, film producers K P Srikanth and Rockline Venkatesh, and actor Duniya Vijay are among the members appointed by the Government.
The panel will compile a comprehensive report on developing an OTT platform for Kannada films and submit a report to the state government, the order said.
The chief minister’s office also released two other orders related to the promotion of Kannada films. The first was about compiling a draft policy in line with a government decision to consider the film industry on par with other industries. A 12-member panel formed for the purpose is tasked with studying film industry policies implemented by the Centre and various state governments.
The other order related to the formation of a 10-member panel tasked with preserving Kannada films that depict the social, historical, and cultural values of Karnataka in digital and non-digital formats. The panel will travel to Mumbai, Kerala, and other places to meet experts. In the budget, the Karnataka Government had set aside Rs 3 crore for the film repository.
