Karnataka declares 1,777 acres in Devanahalli as a Permanent Special Agricultural Zone, promising farmer support, incentives & modern agri‑infra
The Karnataka government has formally notified 1,777 acres of land across 13 villages in Channarayapatna hobli, Devanahalli taluk, as a “Permanent Special Agricultural Zone.” The move reverses earlier plans to acquire the land for Phase‑II of an Aerospace Park and instead secures it for long‑term agricultural use with added benefits and infrastructure support.
The notified land was already classified as part of the Green Zone. By granting it permanent agricultural status, the government aims to ensure farming continues alongside industrial growth while also attracting fresh investment into agriculture. Officials explained that the designation is intended to balance urban expansion with rural livelihoods, offering farmers greater security and opportunities.
The Industries Department clarified that farmers retain full ownership rights and are free to sell their land if they choose. There are no restrictions on sale arising from the new status. Farmers may voluntarily sell to the government and receive compensation determined by the Land Price Determination Committee, but they are not compelled to do so.

Authorities have promised a range of support measures for farmers in the zone. These include access to high‑yield seeds, cold storage facilities, promotion of organic farming and hydroponics, improved soil and water management, and direct market linkages through e‑trading platforms. Additional incentives will cover tax exemptions for farms and agri‑startups, faster clearances for agri‑business projects, support for processing units, warehousing, export opportunities, local employment, laboratory and quality‑testing facilities, training, credit access, and research collaborations.
The initiative aligns Karnataka with other states such as Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra, which already operate similar agricultural zones. A committee will be set up to study benefits offered in those regions and adapt them for farmers in Devanahalli, ensuring the zone delivers both economic and social advantages.
