With a 50 per cent discount in traffic fines, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah office’s settled seven traffic violations that involved his official car. Karnataka BJP state president Vijayendra also settled fines of 10 traffic violations involving his car.
Traffic police sources confirmed that surveillance cameras under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) captured multiple infractions involving the CM’s Toyota Fortuner. The violations include six instances of not wearing a seatbelt and one case of speeding, all between January and August 2024. In each seatbelt violation, CM Siddaramaiah was reportedly traveling in the passenger seat and the most recent violation was recorded in August, while others occurred throughout the first seven months of the year.
The Chief Minister’s office has settled all penalties, paying a total of Rs 2,500 after availing the state government’s 50 percent discount on traffic fines. This waiver scheme applies to all pending traffic violations across Karnataka. A senior Bengaluru Traffic Police Division official confirmed that the cases were processed through standard procedures without any special consideration. “The cases were treated as per procedure, and the fine was paid like in any other case,” the official stated.
In the case of Vijayendra’s car, the violations included not wearing a seat belt, speeding, signal jumps and others. According to the police, his office paid Rs 3,250 fine which was pending from 2020.
According to police, the offer will be valid from August 23 to September 12. The city has 3 crore traffic violations pending between 2019 and 2025 which amounts to around Rs 1,000 crore. As of Saturday, the traffic police said that 16,21,721 cases were settled and a total amount of Rs 45,52,750 crore was collected.
