The Karnataka Cabinet Thursday cleared the proposal for parts of two metro corridors in Bengaluru to come up in the double-decker model, comprising metro viaducts and elevated roads. The project is estimated to cost Rs 9,700 crore.
Addressing a news conference, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said the double-decker metro line will run a total length of 37.121 km. The first part will be from JP Nagar Fourth Stage to Hebbal, and the second will be from Hosahalli to Kadabagere.
The cost of the project will be shared by the government, civic body, and by raising loans. While the government will contribute 50 per cent of the project cost, the local body will bear 10 per cent and the remaining cost will be raised as loans, he said.
Another decision of the Cabinet was to hand over developed bulk land to property owners whose land was acquired by the Karnataka Housing Board at Chikkajala and Meenakunte, located at Yelahanka taluk in the northern part of the city. The developed bulk land will be shared by the owners and the Board in a 50:50 ratio, Patil said.
The Board will partner with private developers in the portion held by it to develop an integrated hi-tech township, the minister said. The development in a total area of 43 acres will be at a cost of Rs 2,930 crore, he further said.
The Cabinet also approved Rs 956.67 crore for the construction of six sewage treatment plants (STPs) in different parts of Bengaluru. The STPs will come up at Madiwala at a cost of Rs 244.32 crore, Kadubeesanahalli (Rs 191.65 crore), Kadugodi (Rs 104.7 crore), Koramangala (Rs 95.41 crore), Basavapura (Rs 59.36 crore), and Bellandur Amani Khane (Rs 261.23 crore).
The funds allocated will cover the construction of these STPs, along with operation and maintenance of these units for a seven-year period, Patil said.
