Equipped with high-speed capability, luxury amenities, and safety tech, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will offer affordable overnight travel on long-distance routes.
India is preparing to unveil its first-ever Vande Bharat Sleeper train in September 2025, expanding the successful semi-high-speed fleet to overnight, long-distance travel. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the development during a public event in Gujarat , highlighting the project as part of the Centre’s plan to modernise and transform railway services.
Developed jointly by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the 16-coach train will feature AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier accommodation, with the capability to run at speeds of up to 180 km/h.

Passenger-focused features will include real-time information systems, USB-enabled reading lamps, CCTV coverage, modular pantry units, hot-water showers in AC First Class, accessible berths and toilets for differently-abled travellers, touch-free bio-vacuum toilets, talk-back communication units, and sensor-based interconnecting doors.
Safety measures will comprise the Kavach anti-collision system, emergency braking, and anti-climbing technology.

While the routes are yet to be finalised, key corridors under consideration include New Delhi–Howrah, New Delhi–Mumbai, New Delhi–Pune, and New Delhi–Secunderabad.
Positioned as an affordable luxury option for middle-class families, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train aims to offer a faster, more comfortable alternative to air travel for overnight journeys, marking a significant leap in India’s rail travel experience.
