Huli Beera is a film entirely made by artists, technicians, and producers from the North Karnataka region. The film aims to inspire youth to return to their roots and revive villages that are slowly fading away.
Produced by a passionate team from North Karnataka, Huli Beera is directed by Madarangi Mallikarjuna, who previously helmed Rang Birangi. He has also written the story, screenplay, and directed the action sequences.
Rural star Anjan, known for his role in Yarrabirri, plays the lead, while Chaitra Thotada takes on the female lead.
The film is produced by Davala Saheb Hunashimarada, Ashok N. (Turuvekere), and Sujatha Girish under the Sai Star Cinemas banner.
Director Mallikarjuna, working on his fifth directorial venture, shared that the film began production four years ago. The protagonist is named Beera, but in the village, he’s known as “Huli Beera”—a title given to young men who bravely face challenges for the welfare of the village. Beera stands tall for his people, always putting the village first. The film explores how he encourages educated youth and women, who have migrated to the city for jobs, to return to their villages, revitalize them, and take pride in being a “Huli Beera.”
Blending comedy, sentiment, and entertainment, the film carries a strong social message. Filming was done over two schedules, totaling 51 days, in Badami and surrounding villages. Veteran actor Rangayana Raghu plays the role of the village elder. The film is currently in the dubbing stage and is expected to release in November.
Lead actor Anjan said, “I hail from Kundagol, a small village in North Karnataka. I started by making reels and short films and gained recognition through social media. Yarrabirri gave me my break as a hero. Today, most village youth leave for cities, leaving behind only the elderly and the poor. So, who will protect our villages? This film carries the message that we must first take care of our hometowns.”
Chaitra Thotada, who plays the hero’s niece in the film, has previously appeared in Brahmarakshasa, Vidura, and Chowkidar. She said she was particularly moved by a song written by the director. Vanu Patil and Anjali also feature as heroines in the film.
Music director Veer Samarth shared that the soundtrack consists of four folk-inspired songs and two instrumental bits. Two songs are written by the director himself, with contributions from lyricists Shivu Bergi and Nagendra Prasad. Sarigamapa-fame Shivani has lent her voice to one of the songs. The background score is composed by Dharma Vish.
Cinematographer Sanathan opted for natural locations instead of sets to maintain authenticity and realism in the visuals.
The cast also includes Gururaj Hoskote, Rajendra Karanth, Sunandamma, Rayappa Sathani, Mallu Bagalkote, Santosh Keri, Revanna, Nagaraj Nilugal, Neethu, Sanjay, and others.
Arish handled the editing, choreography was done by Height Manju and Prajwal, while stunt sequences were managed by Different Danny and Ashok.
