The sudden spell of rains in Bengaluru caught many residents off guard. Streets around major markets and festival hubs were waterlogged, forcing processions and community events to pause. While the festive spirit remained high, the heavy showers tested the patience of thousands who had gathered for pujas and cultural programs.
IMD rain predictions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a warning of heavy rainfall across Karnataka until August 31. Officials attributed the downpour to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, which is influencing weather conditions across the state. Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada have already been receiving heavy showers for the past two days, leading to overflowing drains and traffic disruptions.
Meanwhile, parts of the Kalyan Karnataka region also reported intense rainfall, further validating IMD’s forecast. The continuing showers have added to the concerns of festival organizers, with outdoor programs facing repeated interruptions.
Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution while traveling and to prepare for possible traffic congestion in rain-hit areas. With the monsoon expected to remain active, residents may have to celebrate the remainder of Ganesh Chaturthi under cloudy skies.
