The Gujarat Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has dismantled a major spy network and arrested two key suspects accused of gathering and transmitting classified information to handlers in Pakistan. The two suspects, including a former army soldier, were detained in a coordinated manner in two locations.
The arrests were made early Thursday in Goa and Daman, and the suspects were subsequently transported to the ATS headquarters in Gandhinagar for interrogation. Officials confirmed that the duo, identified as A.K. Singh, a former Subedar in the Indian Army, and Rashmin Ravindra Pal, a woman in her 30s, had been under surveillance for several weeks following intelligence inputs about suspicious communications.
According to preliminary investigations, Singh, who retired from the Army several years ago, leveraged his military background to access and compile sensitive details on strategic locations, including defence installations and critical infrastructure in Gujarat and other states. He is alleged to have played a pivotal role in facilitating financial transactions to support the network, channelling funds to Pakistan-based operatives through covert means. Singh was apprehended from his residence in Goa, where he had been living after his retirement.
Rashmin Ravindra Pal was nabbed from her residence in Daman. She reportedly assisted in collecting and relaying this information via encrypted digital channels, maintaining direct contact with ISI-linked handlers across the border. They allegedly used various communication apps and social media to mask their activities.
