Bengaluru’s bar culture has welcomed a distinctly Goan addition to its shelves – feni, the traditional cashew-based spirit long associated with the coastal state’s taverns and beaches. Once confined largely to Goa, the drink is now available at select outlets in Bengaluru, including popular hotspots like Tonique and PEGS. However, the move comes with a price jump, as a 500 ml bottle that costs around ₹600 in Goa retails for more than double in the city.

Traditionally consumed neat, with soda, or even with a pinch of salt, feni has long been a part of Goan social life. Now, it is being introduced to an audience beyond its native state. The expansion is being driven by Hansel Vaz, founder of the artisanal label Cazulo, who has positioned Bengaluru as a natural gateway given its reputation as India’s beverage capital and its welcoming environment for craft spirits. Alongside bottled feni, Vaz has also launched a Ready-to-Drink cocktail, Mr Jerry’s X Cazulo El Classico, aimed at easing newcomers into the unique flavour profile.
Urrak to debut in 2026
Even as feni gains traction, another Goan spirit is preparing to step into the spotlight. Urrak, a lighter first distillate of cashew, has traditionally been consumed fresh and unbottled. For the first time, it is set to be launched commercially in 2026, marking a significant milestone for Goa’s distilling heritage. Together, feni and Urrak represent a distinctly Indian contribution to the global spirits market.
