To mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, the BJP will again organise a ‘Seva Pakhwada’ from September 17 to October 2. But as the PM turns 75, this time there is a difference.
Sources within the party said that the focus would be more on Modi. “Seminars with intellectuals will be organised where BJP leaders will speak about the life, political career and achievements of the PM, including those during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and also about the time he spent in the party’s organisation,” a source said.
In the past, to mark Modi’s birthday on September 17, the BJP has held cleanliness drives at various places and photo exhibitions on Modi’s life and achievements at party offices.
“This year, the party will identify sites and assign them to teams, who will clean it on a daily basis for the entire duration of the Seva Pakhwada. This way, the site will remain clean and a good message would be sent out among the people,” another party leader said, adding that the photo exhibitions would be held at public places.
According to insiders, a panel of BJP leaders is shortlisting books written on the PM and will hand over the chosen ones to party workers and people. “Apart from this, a documentary on Modi’s life is also being made. It will be screened at various events during the Seva Pakhwada,” a source said.
Similar seminars will also be organised on September 25, to mark the birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh co-founder Deendayal Upadhyaya.
A senior BJP leader, who attended a workshop on the Seva Pakhwada in Delhi last week, said NaMo parks and NaMo Vans (forests) would be developed by municipal bodies in urban areas, with spaces dedicated for plantations by visitors. “Existing ones will also be upgraded to NaMo parks apart from the new ones that will come up. Likewise, areas within existing forests will be earmarked as Namo Vans while new forest areas will be planned across 50 acres through large-scale plantations. The concerned ministries will chalk a roadmap for this,” the leader added.
Initially, the party had proposed to name the parks and forests as Modi parks and Modi Vans respectively, but the idea was dropped over possible criticism from the Opposition, sources said.
The party has also constituted a team of leaders, like national general secretaries Sunil Bansal and Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, national vice-president D K Aruna, secretaries Arvind Menon and Alka Gujar, and joint treasurer Naresh Bansal to oversee the preparations in their assigned states.
On Tuesday, Agrawal held a workshop for party leaders from Uttarakhand while Menon oversaw a similar workshop with leaders from Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu.
The party will also hold seven-day health camps as well as blood donation camps at primary and community health centres across the country. “BJP national president J P Nadda, who is also the Union Health Minister, is likely to interact with health ministers of states in this regard,” sources said.
The BJP’s youth wing – the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha – will hold 3-km and 5-km marathons at over 1,000 places across the country. A drawing competition on 11 years of the Modi government will also be held, sources said.
