Bengaluru: Three people, including a father-son duo, died after a cab crashed into the median of the Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled highway near Jayapura Gate in Ramanagara in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Thammanna Gowda, 56, his son Muthuraj, 27, both residents of Kengeri, and Shashank, also known as Sachin, 28, who was the cab driver. Thammanna’s nephew Sanjay, 26 who was injured, was taken to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.Thammanna, a farmer originally from a village in KR Nagar, had settled with his family in Kengeri. Saturday, the family hired the cab to attend a function at Maduvinakodi in KR Pet, Mandya. They were returning to Bengaluru when the accident took place.Shashank, a native of Hassan, lost control over the cab when it reached a curved stretch and the vehicle crashed into the median. The vehicle veered to the left before stopping in the middle of the road.Initial investigations suggest that Shashank might have dozed off while driving, leading to the crash. The road where the accident occurred has both a curve and a slope, which could have contributed to the accident.Commuters passing by the spot used iron rods to break open the jammed doors of the cab and managed to pull out the victims. Sanjay was rushed to a nearby hospital before being shifted to Bengaluru.
