A team of qualified individuals proving their mettle in professional fields makes a leap into cinema. First of all, they have captured blood-curdling tales and added the fragrance of forest, nature, and innocence—beautifully explained on the silver screen with grit and determination. Kudos to the team for portraying the culture, language, life, and innocence at a high level. Everything looks natural and neat in the narration.
The High 5 team excels when it comes to portraying innocence and emotion on screen. The addition of greed—even in innocent people—is what makes them pitiable in life. How and why this happens is what you will discover in this 134-minute narration filled with excellent cinematography, music, and natural performances from the artists.
The central message of the film is simple: Greed does not win over innocence.
At the center is Muttha, a hard nut to crack. Muttha and his four friends beat the drum at the time of death, and the cunning character Eltuu takes advantage of the foursome’s innocence, led by Muttha.
The twist in the tale between the innocent and the greedy opens up in the second half. It becomes a Shankha Naada (conch sound). The director now shifts focus to the theme of greed. The story revolves around the belief in a priceless conch that emerges from a pile of rice—milk poured on it turns into curd, and so on. Muttha discovers this conch in a flowing river. News of the priceless conch spreads like wildfire, and what follows is also wild—leading into the second part of the movie, Eltuu Muttha.
The serene first half gives way to a bewildering second half, where characters begin plotting to get hold of the conch. The guessing is not easy, and the reality of the screenplay builds momentum.
Performance Highlights:
- Shaurya Prathapa as Muttha delivers a powerful performance—his looks, behavior, dance, and dialogue are all top-notch.
- Director Raa Surya as the cunning middleman and flower seller supports the flow of the film well.
- Cockroach Sudhi as Alex Chatla is dangerous in his role. A new weapon—the Magachekayi (used for turning dosas and chapatis)—is creatively introduced and shockingly used to slice a throat.
- Navin Padil stands out in his role.
- Priyanka Malali is calm, composed, and absorbing.
- Baby Shloka also delivers a touching performance.
Technical Aspects:
- Prasanna Keshav, as music director, provides a competent score. His work here promises a bright future in music.
- Milky (Meiyappa Bhaskar) as cinematographer enhances the visual storytelling.
The core song of the film, “Belaka Nido Suryana Mogake Karmoda…” is meaningful and well-timed.
Eltuu Muttha is a film of a different genre—fresh and rooted in cultural emotion. It deserves audience support and encouragement. A strong debut effort by producer Satya S Srinivasan.
