President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in a grand ceremony attended by outgoing Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, and several other dignitaries.

Radhakrishnan, who secured a comfortable victory in the September 9 election with 452 votes against 300 polled by former Justice B Sudarshan Reddy, is a seasoned BJP leader with a rich political and administrative background.

Who is CP Radhakrishnan?
Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan began his political career at just 16 with the RSS and Jan Sangh. He later joined the BJP, serving as Tamil Nadu BJP General Secretary in 1996, and as an MP from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999. He went on to serve as Tamil Nadu BJP President from 2003 to 2006 and led India’s parliamentary delegation to the United Nations in 2004.

Before assuming the vice-presidential role, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024, also holding additional charge of Telangana and Puducherry during his tenure.
His political journey and experience are expected to play a key role in his new responsibilities as Vice President, where he will preside over Rajya Sabha proceedings and contribute to shaping national discourse.
