A morning quarrel ended in a deadly blaze at Cool Comfort lodge; Ramesh (30) and Kaveri, staying there for a week, were found dead as Yelahanka New Town police open a probe into the mysterious incident.
They say love should outlive pain, but a grim evening at a small Yelahanka lodge turned that saying on its head. On Thursday around 5 PM, a fire tore through a room at the Cool Comfort lodge in Yelahanka New Town. By the time firefighters and police forced their way in, two occupants were dead: 30-year-old Ramesh and a woman named Kaveri.

The pair, originally from Gadag (Ramesh) and Hunagund in Bagalkot (Kaveri), had been living at the lodge for about a week. Neighbours and lodge staff say the two argued in the morning. Later in the afternoon Ramesh went out and returned carrying a bottle reportedly filled with petrol. According to witnesses and the sequence of events reported by lodge staff, fire broke out in the room soon after.
Kaveri, who worked at a spa, reportedly locked herself inside the bathroom. Alarmed, she managed to call the spa owner to inform them of the emergency. The flames and choking smoke spread quickly through the small lodge; the owner alerted the fire brigade and police. Firefighters and Yelahanka New Town police reached the scene and broke through building glass to enter the burning room.

Emergency crews recovered both victims and shifted their bodies to a hospital. Officials say Ramesh succumbed to severe burn injuries, while Kaveri appears to have died from smoke inhalation, but the exact medical cause will be established after post-mortem reports. No official confirmation yet on whether this was a suicide pact, a deliberate attack, or an accident, those are precisely the questions police are racing to answer.
Yelahanka New Town police have launched a formal investigation. They are collecting statements from lodge staff, the spa owner, neighbours, and any witnesses who saw the couple earlier that day.
Key puzzles remain: why did the couple choose this lodge? What actually transpired inside the room between morning and evening? And crucially, did Ramesh deliberately bring petrol to start the blaze?
