New Delhi: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has found himself at the centre of a controversy after he put up an old photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and praised the “power of the organisation” in an X post mentioning the BJP and its ideological parent RSS.
The photograph, which he said he found “quite impressive”, showed Modi sitting on the floor in front of L.K. Advani, who was seated on a chair. Other leaders including the late Pramod Mahajan are also seen in the photo, which, Digvijaya wrote, shows how a grassroots worker of RSS and Jana Sangh seated at the feet of leaders went on to become a chief minister and the country’s PM.
“I found this picture on the Quora site. It is very impressive. In what way did the grassroots swayamsevak of RSS and the worker of Jan Sangh @BJP4India sit on the floor at the feet of leaders and become the Chief Minister of the state and the Prime Minister of the country. This is the power of the organization. Jai Siya Ram,” read his post, written in Hindi.
Interestingly, he tagged everyone from Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Congress president Kharge, party general secretary and communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh, as well as Modi.
BJP spokesperson C.R. Kesavan pounced on the comment, asking whether “Rahul will show courage and respond to the shocking truth bomb dropped” by Digvijaya.
Will Rahul Gandhi show courage & react to the shocking Truth Bomb dropped by Shri. Digvijaya Singh’s tweet which has totally exposed how Congress first family ruthlessly runs the party in a dictatorial manner and also how autocratic & undemocratic this Congress leadership is? pic.twitter.com/5En2z9PLoF

Kesavan pulled up earlier post of Digvijaya’s from 19 December where he flagged a need for reforms in the Congress, including more “pragmatic decentralised functioning”.
“Rahul Gandhi ji you are absolutely “Bang On” in matters of Socio-Economic Issues. Full Marks. But now please look at @INCIndia also. Like @ECISVEEP needs reforms, so does Indian National Congress…we need more pragmatic decentralised functioning. I am sure you would do it because I know you can do it. Only problem is that it is not easy to “convince” you!!” read his earlier post.

As media persons questioned him on his latest comments on Modi and BJP-RSS, Digvijaya said his words might have been misunderstood. Asked if he sought the revival of the organisation at the Congress Working Committee meeting, Digvijaya said, as quoted by PTI: “In fact, I praised the party organisation. You people have misunderstood things. I am a staunch opponent of the BJP and the RSS.”
