After a long span of nearly fifty years, a new film titled **‘Bicchugattiya Bantana Ballarena’—a movie that evokes memories of the same classic—is now ready for release. It carries the powerful tagline “The sound of the drum has sparked a revolution”. Under the banner of Dorasamudra Pictures. Anil Dorasamudra has directed and invested in the project. His brother Naveen Simbavi has joined hands in production.
As part of the final phase of promotions, the trailer and songs were released in a grand ceremony held at SRV Theatre. Senior actor Dr Sundar Raj, who acted in the original ‘Chomana Dudi’ film, inaugurated the event and fondly recalled old memories.
Cheluvaraj Gowda plays Kaala, along with Basuma Kodagu, Sweedel D’Souza, Shailesh Kengeri, Taranath Bolar, Punya Kotyan, Gopal Mulya, and others in key roles. The executive producer is Raghava Surya, lyricists Pradyumna Narahalli and Deepak Kotyan, with music composed by Shreeshas. Cinematography is by Lamaringe Nirmal, editing by Anil D. and Mavin Joil Pinto. The film has been shot across the scenic locales of Karkala. The movie is now all set to be shown to the public this month.
The director says the line from a song “Ondanondu Kaaladalli” (Once Upon a Time) had a strong resonance, so it was used as the title. “Our film can be considered a continuation of Chomana Dudi. Though the slow-moving Choma fought, he never got the land. His son Kaala takes a more intense path, wielding the ‘Bicchugatti’ (a sharp weapon) in the fight for justice—what happens then? Ultimately, do Kaala and Belli fulfill the dream of his father? All this has been portrayed in a commercial format. The Karanth Trust members watched the film and blessed us. The emotional intensity has been captured meticulously. Choma’s character appears roughly twenty percent in the film,” Anil Dorasamudra shared.
‘Chomana Dudi’ was an exceptional film. Back then, B.V. Karanth and two others had directed it. We have made this film in a way today’s generation can understand. It is no small thing that young talents have taken up such a subject again. If they have made any mistake, forgive them,” Sundar Raj appealed to the media.
